The Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex is the most populous metropolitan area in Texas and the fourth most populous in the United States. Surgical Externship Program
The DVSC Surgical Externship Program is designed for fourth-year clinical veterinary students seeking a unique educational experience. This program offers flexibility to align with your educational institution's requirements. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with veterinarians, interns, and associates, gaining valuable experience in cases from intake to discharge. You will actively engage in rounds and have the chance to scrub in, assisting our board-certified surgeons in a variety of surgical procedures, including neurologic, soft tissue, and orthopedic surgeries.
The program follows a typical schedule from Monday through Friday, running from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with an option to participate in emergency on-call cases. This program is available at two DVSC locations: Grapevine and North Dallas, both of which provide state-of-the-art facilities for hands-on learning and exposure to cutting-edge surgical techniques. It offers fourth-year veterinary students a truly exceptional and enriching educational opportunity.
